In life, there are many wars to fight and the battle with weight is one of the toughest to wage. It’s harder when you don’t know who your enemies are. But most of the time, the answer can be found within us.

A few years ago, I realised that the toxins in our body could be the root cause of our losing battle with weight. Toxins are accumulated through the food we eat, our lifestyle and our environment. Drinking, smoking, eating oily and unhealthy food are some of the common factors.

Why are toxins bad for us?

Firstly, they add on weight – the average person could be carrying around 10kgs of toxins at any one time.

Secondly, their presence interferes with our body’s ability to burn fats by exhausting the same channels used to process fats (eg, they block the hormones that signal when you are full and mislead you into eating more).

Thirdly, they prevent your body from absorbing good nutrients essential for building a strong body and one that can fight fats.

Fourthly, although not related to weight loss but toxins can cause terrible skin problems.

How do you get rid of toxins?

Colon cleansing is probably the most thorough method but it could be dangerous not to mention uncomfortable and messy. Personally, I prefer to flush it out on a daily basis with natural ingredients. Over the years I’ve tried a few detox products and I find that Nature’s Tea from Unicity is by far the best. Drink it after the last last meal of the day and expect to reap what you sow the next morning.

A word of caution to anyone detoxing for the first time, make sure you have easy access to the toilet the following day and definitely no hot dates! Because of the toxins built up over the years, you can expect to make a few more runs to the toilet initially. Afterwards, it is usually once a day and first thing in the morning.

An economical and convenient way to detox, comes with a nice taste too. The instructions say steep for 5 minutes but it actually works better if you leave the tea bag in longer. I always add collagen powder and leave to stand for 30 minutes or longer (S$33 for one month’s supply).

  1. Hey there fantastic website! Does running a blog such as this take
a lot of work? I have very little expertise in programming but I was
hoping to start my own blog in the near future. Anyway,
if you have any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners please
share. I understand this is off subject but I simply wanted to
    ask. Thanks!
